Townhouse Renovation

Modern Townhouse Conversion

The Challenge

One of my first design projects as a student was to renovate a 50’s style row house into a modern light home for a young couple and their two kids. The existing house was very cramped and dark with very little natural internal light  and ver pokey rooms that didn’t flow.

The Solution

I opened up the internal rooms on the ground floor to create an open plan living, dining and kitchen area that flowed out onto the back verandah. I then created a new light well/atrium with a stair case around it leadning to a floating boardwalk with the master bedroom at one end and the two kids rooms at the other end. I then did a split roof which allowed maximum light into the open living area and also acted as a ventilation shaft for the heat in the summer months.

This was my first project using ArchiCAD 21. I produced some initial sketches on paper which were reviewed by my lecturer and then I started modelling in ArchiCAD 21.
